Laura Muscardin is an award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter based in Rome where she is also a Professor in “Theory and analysis of Film language” at the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. Her feature films have screened internationally including at the Venice, Tribeca, Giffoni and Villerupt Film Festivals.

Last year Laura directed “Il Santone”( the Guru,) a series for the streaming platform Rai-play – where it quickly broke viewerships records. It will be shown on RAI 2 in june 2022.

Laura’s 3rd feature “La Guerra di Cam” (Cam’s war) premiered at the Giffoni Film Festival 2020 where it won the CIAL prize. It then won Best Feature film at the International Film Festival of Salerno and at the Swedish Film Awards.

 

Between 2007 and 2015 Laura went on to direct hit Tv series for the premier channels in France and Italy: “la Vie est a’ Nous” for TF1, 3 seasons of “Tutti pazzi per amore” for RAI 1 and “Matrimoni e altre follie” for Canale 5. 

 

In 2008 she made her second feature “Billo, the great Dakhaar.

Co-produced by Senegalese superstar Youssou N’Dour, her film won a series of awards including:

Best Film at the Italian Cinema Fest in Villerupt and in Paris.

 

Before that, in 2001, Laura directed her first feature “Days” in which won many awards including: Emerging Talent Award at Los Angeles Outfest, Best film at Villerupt Italian film Festival and Best Film at Seattle International Gay &Lesbian Film festival

 

Her Shorts include Charlie & the snake’ and “Le Coeur” which won awards worldwide. And Laura’s documentary “Tea on set” (1995) was selected for the Venice Film Festival and her “Figli di Roma citta aperta” was selected for the Tribeca film festival (2005).

 

 

After graduating in Modern History from the University of Roma “La Sapienza”, Laura Muscardin studied filmmaking at U.S.C (University of Southern California). Soon after she was tutor for the independent filmmaker’s program “Happy Snaps” in Cape town, South Africa. And then professor for the  master in  documentary on Art at the “Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma”.

 

In 1995 she cofounded Gold Mist, an independent production company that specializes on documentaries shot worldwide (India, Africa).
